Dimension Data Namibia launches its first in-country hosted security platform

Dimension Data Security platform

On 21 September 2023, Dimension Data Namibia, a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group, launched its first in-country hosted security platform. As a milestone for digital innovation nationally this security platform features innovative measures to curb, maintain and manage cybersecurity events and intrusions in combination with physical firewalls, network security, threat detection and prevention, and incident response supported by a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) enabling end-users to pre-emptively respond to and prevent cyberattacks.

Speaking at the launch event, Annalize van Der Merwe, Dimension Data Namibia Managing Director (MD), shared: “Our current IT environments are constantly under threat and, being concerned by these ever-present potential attackers, IT departments continuously need to assess how they can mitigate these threats. While we cannot predict the future, we can, however, become resilient in the face of these mounting uncertainties.”

Van der Merwe further elaborated on ways to be more proactive in terms of security measures – including auditing existing systems; always being aware of your attack service; having the right team or managed service provider in place; always being able to detect threats and having an appropriate response plan in place – all leading to the introduction of the company’s new platform. “We believe information technology can be your vehicle to security inspiration and digital transformation and the platform we are sharing with you today will enable you to do just that.

“We are excited about the capabilities, service, expertise and scalability our security platform can offer the Namibian market.”

Delivering the keynote address at the event on behalf of Honourable Dr. Peya Mushelenga, Minister of Information and Communication Technology, was Dr. Audrin Mathe, Executive Director of the Ministry Of Information and Communication Technology, who shared that the introduction of the security platform is a significant leap forward in the realm of cybersecurity. Dr. Mathe: “The implementation of this in-country hosted security platform is a complex undertaking. Still, it will fuel renewed trust in our ability as a country to support such ICT security platforms. It demonstrates our commitment to protecting sensitive data and fosters innovation in our digital space. It encourages businesses and organisations to invest in Namibia and collaborate with local companies. This not only promotes economic growth but also contributes to job security across various industries, including the ICT sector. This innovative solution offers improved security by ensuring that sensitive data is stored and processed securely within our country’s borders. This reduces the risk of unauthorised access and data breaches, providing a safer digital environment for our citizens and businesses.

“The digital transformation of our nation requires a holistic approach. We must invest in cutting-edge technologies, cultivate a skilled workforce and promote a culture of cybersecurity awareness. By nurturing robust and secure digital environment, we can unleash the full potential of our people, business and government to drive sustainable development and economic prosperity. The retention of skilled IT experts and professionals means that our local talent is at the forefront of driving digital transformation right here in Namibia. This is not just inspiring. It is a testament to the bright future we envision for our nation. The benefits are immeasurable, especially for a country like Namibia that is committed to promoting innovation and growth in its digital sectors. ICT’s importance to economic development and business growth has been so monumental that it is credited with ushering in what many have labelled the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
